Hey Iris! You are a new artist in Grafikens Hus fine art shop. Could you tell us a bit more about yourself?
My name is Iris Hautaniemi and I am an artist and illustrator based in Stockholm. I am creating strong characters in a distinct imagery. A storytelling without words that combine the ordinary and the absurd. Currently I am doing my bachelor’s studies at Konstfack in graphic design and illustration and have previously exhibited at Supermarket Art Fair with C-print.
Could you tell us a little bit about the prints you are working on in collaboration with Grafikens Hus?
The work I have in collaboration with Grafikens Hus is a collection of images where I worked very heavily with my characters. A lot of the choices I make when drawing can be personal, but I always want the work to be up for interpretation which makes the meaning different for each viewer.
Your illustrations often have a surreal mood. Where does your inspiration for your illustrations come from?
A lot of my inspiration comes from literature and poetry. As an artist with a Chinese background I also use a lot of references and imagery from my culture and childhood. I’ve also always been very interested in myths, history and everything camp.
